And now, a minute with the Word…

Regardless of questions that might arise from specifics in 1 Corinthians 7, certain fundamental truths about marriage and human intimacy are abundantly clear in this text. (1) Marriage is of divine design and origin, not human. (2) Marriage, as established by God, is only between and man and woman. (3) The marriage relationship is intended by God to be permanent, not disposable. (4) Choosing to marry or not marry, deciding whom to marry, and determining behavior within marriage — all must consider spiritual priorities. (5) Physical intimacy should be confined to a God-joined husband and wife. (6) Virginity, celibacy, and monogamy are to be respected, not mocked. Remember, “Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrews 13.4).
