Week 48, Day 4 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
In chapter 9, Daniel prayed requesting God’s forgiveness and restoration of he and his people. God immediately sent His angel Gabriel in response to Daniel’s petition. Gabriel prophesied that Jerusalem would be rebuilt as Daniel requested but would later be destroyed a second time. Jesus said, “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near.” (Luke 21:20) He referred to the inspired writing of Daniel (verse 27) describing the coming destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. God’s judgment would be carried out on the city of Jerusalem by the Romans after the Jews rejected and crucified Jesus there. Although the city of Jerusalem would be rebuilt in the future, it would never again be the city of the living God.
