Week 49, Day 4 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
“The he showed me Joshua the High Priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, O Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?” Now Joshua was standing before the angel, clothed with filthy garments.” (Zechariah 3.1-3) (ESV)
How Joshua was standing before God is representative of how we stand before God in our sin. Joshua was plucked from the fire of exile. He was given clean garments so he could stand before God and serve Him in clothing and a condition that was acceptable before God. With the new garments given to Joshua, Satan’s accusation no longer had any standing. Satan stands ready to accuse us everyday before God. When we come in contact with the blood Jesus at our baptism we are a “brand plucked from the fire” of unrighteousness and sin. When we do sin after become a child of God, we are cleansed of our sins when we ask God for forgiveness (1 John 1.9). Let us thank God for plucking us out of the fire of sin and unrighteousness!
