Week 50, Day 2 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
While Jesus’ body hung lifelessly on the cross, “one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear” (John 19.34), in fulfillment of Zechariah 12.10, “They will look on him whom they have pierced” (John 19.37). Beginning some fifty days later, those who fulfilled one passage of Zechariah by their despite for Jesus could benefit from the fulfillment of another — “On that day there shall be a fountain opened…to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness” (Zechariah 13.1). At Pentecost, Peter indicted those who had Jesus “crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men” (Acts 2.23; cf. verse 36); but to them he also preached, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins” (Acts 2.38, emp. added).
