And now, a minute with the Word…

The word “God,” His name LORD (i.e. Yahweh or Jehovah), and all such divine identifiers are conspicuously absent from the book of Esther, as is reference to angels, miracles, and any other spiritual being or activity; but it would be a grave oversight to miss the presence and work of God in this magnificent book. Esther and Mordecai’s story is one of God’s providence, i.e. His inimitable capacity to foresee and fore-tend the needs of His people to fulfill His purposes. It does not require miraculous means, or even the extraordinary, but God’s providence is His unparalleled ability to accomplish the extraordinary by means of the ordinary — especially by people, even the unsuspecting, the unwilling, and the unbelieving. Read and wonder at the power of God.
