Week 51, Day 3 — Ezra 7-8
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
Ezra 8.28 — “And I said to them, You are holy to the Lord, and the vessels are holy, and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the Lord, the God of your fathers.” (ESV)
This idea of being holy to the Lord is a simple, yet profound idea. When we think about being holy, we think about being set apart, consecrated. In his first epistle, the apostle Peter told his readers, “but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in your conduct, since it is written, ‘You shall be holy, for I am holy.’” (1 Peter 1.15-16). I am to set myself apart FROM the world and set myself apart TO God. Simple enough right? However, am I truly setting myself apart from the world? Where do my affections lie? Where am I the most attentive in my daily life? Is it the things of God and His kingdom? Or is it in my own interests, activities, and commitments?
Galatians 2.20 — “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live by the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” (ESV)
