Week 10, Day 3 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2025 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” While on the cross, Jesus uttered these words from Psalm 22.1, seemingly identifying with the psalmist’s despair, and leading many to conclude that Jesus was forsaken by His Father — but consider the rest of the psalm. While it certainly speaks of Jesus’ suffering, it also tells of His ultimate victory, “For [God] has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him, but has heard, when he cried to him” (verse 24, emp. added). So, when we despair, remember that Jesus’ suffering ended in resurrection. “Death is swallowed up in victory” (1 Corinthians 15.54), so God’s faithful can trust that suffering is not the end of their story.
