And now, a minute with the Word…

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1.1). This is not just a statement of God’s eternal existence and unmitigated power, though it is certainly both of those; it is also a declaration of God’s ultimate authority. As the subsequent verses reveal, He made it all, so it all belongs to Him and persists within His domain (Colossians 1.17; Hebrews 1.3) — including us. “The earth is the LORD’s and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it” (Psalm 24.1-2), so He, and He alone, determines “Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD?” (verses 3), i.e. who may have fellowship with the Creator and Ruler of all.
