What’s the Hurry?
The invitation is extended. The congregation stands and sings. Lost souls are urged to respond. Often, the preacher will say something similar to, “Won’t you come to the front as we stand and sing.” Sure enough several file out of their pews, but rather than coming to the front, they head for the exit! What’s the hurry?
What is so important that you can’t sing with your brethren and encourage lost souls to respond to the invitation of our dear Lord? What is so pressing that you can’t manage to squeeze out five or ten more minutes to invest in worship and praise? Is that ball game, party, date, television show, movie, or restaurant reservation really all that important?
Suppose the Lord was standing at the back door, and you had to explain to Him why you were leaving early. Would you still be in such a hurry?
What does it say about the condition of your heart and the level of your commitment when you can’t postpone those worldly concerns in order to participate in urging lost souls to respond to the Lord?
What’s the hurry? What’s more important than what you are leaving? Is getting where you are going or doing what you have planned all that important? Is it really more important than worshiping and praising God? Sadly, for some I fear it is!
