And now, a minute with the Word…

Pride was a recurring struggle for Jesus’ apostles. In Mark 10 alone, they attempted to turn away children (who they deemed unworthy of Jesus’ attention), they boasted about the great sacrifices they had made to follow Jesus, and they vied for positions of power in the kingdom. On the other hand, Jesus told them that children epitomize the character of His people, their sacrifices would be repaid manyfold, and they needed not the carnal spirit of the heathen world, rather the spirit of Christ, who “did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” With every expression of pride, Jesus reminded them, Proverbs 29.23, “A man's pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.”
