Mark 11
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Jesus’ response to the Jewish leaders who challenged His authority (Mark 11.27-33) teaches us vital lessons on the subject. First, Jesus did not dismiss the question, instead reinforcing its validity as a religious concern. Second, His own question to His opponents offered only two possible sources of authority — divine and human. Notice that Jesus’ opponents did not argue the point, and further, they understood its implications — divine authority is to be followed, and human authority is to be rejected. Here, theirs was not a knowing problem, but a doing problem, because as Jesus had already said regarding them, “Their heart was far from [Him].” (Mark 7.6)
