And now, a minute with the Word…

Like Jesus’ disciples, we tend to behave as if everything will always be as it is and always has been. But Jesus warned in Mark 13 that things would not always remain the same — for Jerusalem in that generation, nor for the entire world on some unknown future day — so Jesus said, “Take heed” (verse 5), “watch out” (verse 9), again “take heed” (verse 23), “Take heed, watch and pray” (verse 33), “Watch therefore” (verse 35), and again “Watch!” (verse 37). In 1 Thessalonians 5, the apostle Paul wrote, “The Lord so comes as a thief in the night . . . Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober” (verses 2, 6).
