And now, a minute with the Word…

After four generations of Egyptian slavery, a weekly Sabbath rest was indeed a welcome blessing for the children of Israel, but God intended for them an even greater rest in the Promised Land. An entire generation more perished in the wilderness, without receiving that rest, for their unbelief and disobedience. Joshua finally led Isreal into Canaan, but even then they did not receive the ultimate rest. “There remains therefore a rest for the people of God,” so we are called to diligence, faithfulness, and obedience, knowing that our lives are entirely “open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account,” and rejoicing in our “great High Priest…Jesus the Son of God…that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
