By faith Abel offered; Enoch pleased; Noah prepared; Abraham obeyed, went out, dwelt, and waited; Sarah bore, and Abraham offered; Isaac blessed; Jacob blessed and worshiped; Joseph made mention and gave instructions; Moses’ parents hid him; Moses refused, chose, esteemed, looked, forsook, endured, saw, and kept; Israel passed and conquered; Rahah received. “All of these…obtained a good testimony through faith” (verse 39). “Through it [they] being dead still speak” (verse 4), saying “without faith it is impossible to please [God]” (verse 6) and “a man is justified by works and not by faith alone,” because “faith without works is dead” (James 2.24, 26).
