Luke 12
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
In teaching his disciples about the influence of the Pharisees, Jesus warns them that “Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.” (Luke 12.2-3) This is an important lesson for us to consider. We need to be careful of the things that we say and do when we are either by ourselves or when we feel like we are in a private space. The Pharisees liked to do other things, religious things, so that others would see them doing them and praise them for it (Matthew 23.5). They told others what to do, and yet did not do those things and were unwilling to do them (Matthew 23.3-4). The things that we do when no one is watching are seen by someone, God. On the day of judgment, we will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, and so receive what is due for what we have done in our life (2 Corinthians 5.10). Let us be sure that we too beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and instead have a heart that WANTS to do God’s will.
