Luke 15
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
This is chapter from scripture probably has 3 of the most well known and read parables in all the Gospel accounts. The parable of the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son. I want to draw our attention to the parable of the lost son briefly for today. If you look at the context of Luke 15, Jesus is speaking to the Pharisees after they get upset that Jesus is associating with the tax collectors and sinners. At the end of the parable of the lost son, Jesus focuses on the older brother who was upset and angry with his father for celebrating the return of his sinful son. Instead of being upset with Jesus that tax collectors and sinners were coming to him, the Pharisees should have been rejoicing that their lost brethren were coming back to God. If we are not careful, we too can turn out like the Pharisees and the older brother from this parable. Let us not think of ourselves as somehow better than ‘others’, but let us instead rejoice over a sinner who repents and returns to a relationship with God (Luke 15.7,10).
