Acts chapter 2 has been called “the hub of the Bible” — that is, the point to which everything before it leads and the point from which everything after it springs. It is the fulfillment of Old Testament “kingdom” prophecies, like Psalm 2, Isaiah 2, Daniel 2, and Joel 2. It is the fulfillment of New Testament “kingdom” proclamations — like the announcement of both John the Baptist and Jesus, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 3.2; 4.17), and like Jesus’ promise, “I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it” (Matthew 16.18). And it is also the epicenter from which Jesus’ saving gospel spread “in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1.8) and “turned the world upside down” (Acts 17.6).
