Luke 22
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood which is shed for you.” This statement from Jesus found in Luke 22.20 is only 14 words, but those 14 words carry a huge impact to our lives. The blood of Jesus was shed to institute a new covenant between God and man. No longer would God’s people need to rely on the Levitical priesthood to offer the blood of animals daily in ritual sacrifice. The blood of Jesus was the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world, and it would only be offered once. If you are a Christian, you have entered into this new covenant with God. That begs certain questions:
- Am I abiding by the terms of the covenant?
- How often do I think about the covenant between God and me?
If I am not abiding by the terms of the covenant, there is good news for me. I still have time to fix that. If I am abiding by the covenant I entered into with God, I need to keep going! “The one who conquers will never be harmed by the second death.” (Revelation 2.11)
