Acts 4
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
The Lord’s kingdom (His church) was barely in its infancy, and the kingdom call (the preaching of a crucified and resurrected Christ) remained a novel thing, when persecution first arose in Acts chapter 4. Indeed, the speed with which it appears, so soon after the gospel’s beginnings in Acts chapter 2, should remind us that opposition is the norm to be expected rather than the exception. Jesus said, “Blessed are you when [not if] they revile and persecute you…” (Matthew 5.11), and Paul wrote, “Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3.12). Perhaps we should ask, if we are not experiencing opposition for our faith, are we speaking it and living it as boldly as we ought?
