And now, a minute with the Word…

However misguided Gamaliel might have been otherwise, he was extraordinarily wise on this point: “if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing; but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it” (verses 38-39). Over the course of world history, countless religions have come and gone; and in the 2000 years since Acts 2, virtually endless variations of so-called Christianity have risen and fallen; but “the word of God…lives and abides forever, because ‘All flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away, but the word of the Lord endures forever’” (1 Peter 1.23-25). Indeed, “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5.29).
