In Acts 2.37, “when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said…, ‘Men and brethren, what shall we do?’” Three thousand “gladly received his word” and “were baptized” (verse 41). On the other hand, in Acts 7, “When they heard these things they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at [Stephen] with their teeth (verse 54) . . . Then they cried out with a loud voice, stopped their ears, and ran at him with one accord; and they cast him out of the city and stoned him” (verse 57). How does your heart respond to the piercing gospel of Jesus Christ?
