Acts 9
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Much misunderstanding surrounds Saul’s conversion in Acts 9. First, Saul was not saved on the road to Damascus, because the Lord told him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do” (verse 6). Further, he was not saved by his faith alone (verse 6), or combined only with repentance (verse 9) and prayer (verse 11), because those all preceded “be[ing] told what [he] must do.” Again, he was not saved by the laying on of Ananias’ hands, because that wasn’t its purpose (verse 17). He was saved when “he arose and was baptized” (verse 18), as Ananias said to him, “Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord” (Acts 22.16).
