Acts 13

Series: 2023 Bible Reading

And now a minute with the word...

In Acts 13, we have perhaps the most famous description of David given. He is called a man after God’s own heart in v 22. Why is it that he was considered a man after God’s own heart? Because he was perfect? Because he never sinned? No. He certainly was not perfect. However, when he did mess up and fall short, he would continually come back to God wholeheartedly. He really meant his remorse and repentance. This is seen in his life and in his writings such as in Psalm 51:10-13, where he writes, “create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners will be converted to You.” David’s focus was on God and His glory. He wanted to be cleansed and in a relationship with God. He wanted others to experience that as well. He truly was a man after God’s own heart. The question we must consider is am I a person after God’s own heart?
