Acts 19.19 records a powerful picture of true repentance — “Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totaled fifty thousand pieces of silver.” Approximately 50,000 days’ wages — in today’s terms, $2.9M — went up in smoke, vividly displaying their profound change in thinking and living, and also demonstrating their earnest desire that no one else be deceived by that which had formerly held them spiritually captive.
