And now, a minute with the Word…

Issues with the Lord's people arise when their focus gets off of spiritual things and they dwell on the physical. Paul has already explained in this letter that the physical, fleshly things only amount to issues that lead to death. 

We are reminded here that the kingdom of God is purely spiritual (verse 17). If we "pursue the things that make for peace and the things by which one may edify another" (verse 19), then the Lord's church will flourish. It is when our focus becomes fleshly-minded that we cause dissension due to trivial matters. Ultimately, keeping verse 12 in our minds will help keep the bond of unity: "So then each of us shall give an account of himself to God."
