2 Timothy 3
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
If you were to do a quick cursory glance of your Old Testament, you will not find the names Jannes and Jambres among its pages. If you look at extra biblical sources most will claim that these two individuals were sorcerers of Pharaoh during the time of the Exodus. When viewed through this lens, the example that Paul is drawing here by invoking their names is clear: those who resist God will never succeed and their foolishness will be clear to all (2 Timothy 3.9).
Everyone in history who has tried to resist God has ultimately been humbled and brought low: Pharaoh in the book of Exodus, the inhabitants in the land of Canaan during the time of the conquest under Joshua, the northern kingdom of Israel, Nebuchadnezzar/Babylon in the book of Daniel. I could go on and on. The point is that if we draw near to God, he will draw near to us. If we draw near to him and allow his word to change who are, then we will be complete, and equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3.17)
