And now, a minute with the Word…

In light of everything that Paul had just mentioned in his letter, he gives one final encouragement to Timothy: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; correct, rebuke, and encourage with great patience and teaching (2 Timothy 4.2). It did not matter what was going on around or what others were teaching, Timothy was to preach the word of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In times where it didn’t  seem like anyone wants to hear the Gospel message, he was to preach it.

This encouragement, again, is one that we need to take to heart. We live in a time where everything is topsy turvy and up is down. However, just because we live in a society that does not seem to want to acknowledge God or any sort of objective truth, we need to preach the word. We need to do this with great patience. We need to exercise self control in everything, and endure hardships as well. When opportunities come for us to present the Gospel to someone, let us have the courage to take that opportunity to spread the Good News about Jesus. Let us one day be able to also say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4.7)
