Jude
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Jude Chapter 1 is a letter by Jude, who was a disciple of Jesus and may have been one of His relatives. In this epistle, Jude first greeted his followers with mercy, peace, and love before getting to the core of his message. Jude encouraged his readers to fight for their faith because there were men in the world who wanted to pervert the word of God and deny Jesus Christ. He reminded them that once God brought the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, but then destroyed those who ceased to believe in Him.
Jude also reminded his followers of the angels that rebelled against God and were cast into hell. He also went on to remind them of the fates of Sodom and Gomorrah and how God rained fire down on them when their inhabitants turned to sin. Jude also recounted how the archangel Michael fought with the devil over Moses’ body and found the devil so revolting that he told him that only God could rebuke him. Jude told his readers that the men who had come to deny God were like the sinners in those stories. Jude claimed that they were corrupt and could only speak ill of things they knew nothing about. He said they were ignorant and lascivious like beasts. In Jude Chapter 1, he warned his followers that they would sully their charitable feasts when these sinners were allowed to eat among them. He said they were like barren trees that would come to no good end. Jude then reminded his followers that Enoch prophesied that ungodly men like these would be judged and it was only because these men were wealthy and powerful that people even paid attention to them. Jude Chapter 1 concludes with encouraging words to his followers to keep up their own faith and their love of God. Jude ended his letter with a doxology.
