And now, a minute with the Word…

Coming kingdom, coming king, coming judgment. Preparing hearts for Jesus involves preaching confession of sins and repentance. Why was Jesus baptized? What did He mean that it was fitting to fulfill all righteousness? Can we fulfill all of what is right without being baptized ourselves? God openly declares Jesus to be His Son and to be very pleased with Him. The king is not only coming soon, He has been anointed by God Himself. So, confession of sins, authentic repentance, acknowledgment of Jesus as God’s son, and baptism are all related thru John the Baptist’s work in this chapter. Perhaps his efforts not only prepared first century hearts for Jesus, but also can prepare hearts for Jesus today.
