And now, a minute with the Word…

From an emotional high to emotional low. Starving and alone, Jesus shows what absolute trust and commitment to God looks like, surviving unimaginable temptation by relying on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Jesus knew of the throne and kingdom awaiting Him on the other side of horrific suffering, and He did not let Satan defraud Him with false hope of circumventing that suffering. John the Baptist is arrested. Like a light suddenly shining in a place of darkness and death, Jesus arrives in Capernaum, on the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee, and begins preaching about repentance and the coming kingdom. While by the sea, Jesus calls Peter and his brother Andrew, and then calls James and his brother John, to follow Him. Jesus goes throughout Galilee, teaching and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom. He heals all kinds of diseases from all over. Gentiles from all over Syria (north of Galilee) bring Him all of their sick, demon possessed, paralyzed, etc. and soon Jews from Galilee and Judea are flocking to Him, along with Gentiles from the Decapolis (the 10 cities east of the Jordan River).
