Matthew 15
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Am I guilty of drawing near to God with my mouth and honoring Him with my lips, but not giving Him my heart? Do I sing and say spiritual things on Sunday and Wednesday, or even talk a good talk in front of family and friends, but in reality am actually living a life devoted to myself? What evidence is there that I’ve given my heart to God? On a different note, Why did Jesus not immediately heal the Gentile woman’s daughter? He had already healed so many Gentiles before this chapter, so why the drawn out song and dance? Maybe she serves as a perfect contrast to the Jewish reaction to Jesus. Although blessed with the oracles of God, the promise of a Messiah, and being the nation/family thru whom the whole world would be blessed, and despite Jesus being sent to them first, the Jews as a whole reject Him. This Gentile woman on the other hand shows incredible humility and persistence and faith to pursue Jesus. Maybe faith is perfected or proven when humility and persistence are required. Do I have her humility or faith? Do I have her persistence and hunger for Jesus?
