1 Corinthians 4
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
“Do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ” (Galatians 1.10). While I sincerely doubt Paul’s desire for hunger, thirst, poor clothing, beatings, homelessness, labors, reviling, persecutions, and defamations (1 Corinthians 4.11-13), he willingly endured these reproaches of men, so that he might be “found faithful” (verse 1) when judged by the Lord (verse 4), and that his “praise [would] come from God” (verse 5). So from whom do we seek commendation — from men or from God? “Let a man so consider us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God” (1 Corinthians 4.1).
