Hebrews 12.7-11 — “If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons . . . for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” As our loving Heavenly Father, God wants only and always what is best for us, so He chastens us — by His word, by our brethren, through His providence — and sometimes painfully. “But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world” (1 Corinthians 11.32).
