1 Corinthians 16
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
The apostle Paul’s letters frequently close with greetings to be shared among brethren. In some cases, like 1 Corinthians 16 and Romans 16, specific names and families are listed, especially mentioning those to be commended for their brotherly love and good works. “Therefore acknowledge such men” (1 Corinthians 16.18). “Hold such men in esteem” (Philippians 2.29). “Recognize those who labor among you” (1 Thessalonians 5.12). Of course, such men and women do not seek the acknowledgment, esteem, or recognition; but the attention permits others to “see [their] good works and glorify [our] Father in heaven” (Matthew 5.16), encourages their faith and service, and challenges others to likewise imitate the Lord.
