And now, a minute with the Word…

For those familiar with the apostle Paul’s story in the book of Acts, his sufferings listed in 2 Corinthians 11 come as no surprise — labors, stripes, prisons, deaths, rods, stoned, shipwrecked, journeys; in perils of waters, robbers, countrymen, Gentiles, city, wilderness, sea, false brethren, weariness, toil, sleeplessness, hunger, thirst, fastings, cold, and nakedness. But what might surprise us is verse 28: “Besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.” When did we last agonize over the spiritual condition of others, whether struggling Christians or alien sinners? Jesus “was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd” (Matthew 9.36).
