2 Corinthians 8
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
In 2 Corinthians 8, Paul references two unnamed brethren — one, “the brother whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches” (verse 18); and two, “our brother whom we have often proved diligent in many things” (verse 22). These prompt two thoughts. First, like these men and like Timothy, who “was well spoken of by the brethren who were at Lystra and Iconium” (Acts 16.2) and whose “proven character” was known (Philippians 2.22), are we known by those closest to us for our godly character and spiritual diligence? Second, are we humbly content without the recognition of others, simply trusting that “The Lord knows those who are His” (2 Timothy 2.19) and that our “names are in the Book of Life” (Philippians 4.3)?
