2 Corinthians 13
Series: 2023 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
"Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves” (2 Corinthians 13.5). This is one of the most familiar passages of the entire epistle, so if we are not careful, it is also one over which we can hastily read with little or no thought. But the concept is far too important to ignore. Throughout the Scriptures, God calls us to personal (Romans 14.12; 2 Corinthians 5.10), righteous (John 12.48), thorough (Psalm 139.1-16, 23-24), honest (1 John 1.8-10), and constant (1 Corinthians 9.24-27) self-examination. For example, are we abundantly bearing “the fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5.22-23)? Are we deeply engaged in the Word of God (Acts 2.42; 2 Timothy 2.15)? Are we purposefully spending time in prayer (Colossians 4.2; 1 Thessalonians 5.17)? Are we nurturing relationships with brethren (Romans 12.3-13)? Are we deliberately seasoning and shining for the Lord (Matthew 5.13-16)? In other words, are we “in the faith”?
