And now, a minute with the Word…

James’ epistle has been called “the Proverbs of the New Testament,” and that description is certainly appropriate, especially for chapter one. It is full of practical wisdom for godly living, and highlights many of the most fundamental traits and behaviors that should be exemplified in the Lord’s people — joyful, patient, perfected, wise, prayerful, confident, stable, humble, enduring, approved, tempted but steadfast, fruitful, self-controlled, righteous, pure, growing, doing, honest, thoughtful, disciplined, undefiled, and busy. While not an exhaustive list, it is certainly enough to sober most of us. Look into this spiritual mirror, this “perfect law of liberty” (verse 25), and ask, How am I really doing?
