And now, a minute with the Word…

There is a remarkable contrast described in Revelation 16, between those who praise God for His righteousness and justice, as evidenced in His judgments (verses 5-7), and those who three times are said to blaspheme in response to those same judgements (verses 9, 11, 21). One might attribute this stark difference to the perspectives from which these speak — angelic vs. human, respectively — but there is also something far more basic at work here. In the words of Jesus Himself, “Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted” (Matthew 23.12; cf. Luke 14.11; 18.14; James 4.10).
