And now, a minute with the Word…

Appearances can be deceiving. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Looks aren’t everything. These are just three of the most common clichés used on the subject, but they all express an important Biblical truth that is further underscored in Revelation 17. “The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls,” but she also had “in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication” (verse 4); and eventually she would be hated, made “desolate and naked,” and her flesh eaten and burned with fire (verse 16). As with nations, so with individual men and women, there is the temptation “to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11.25), but “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment” (John 7.24).
