Week 1, Day 2 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Genesis 3-5 are among the darkest chapters of all Scripture. They record for us the introduction of sin and its consequences (chapter 3), the destructive power of unchecked sin and its effect within families (chapter 4), and the increase of human population and sin’s proliferation (chapter 5). Nonetheless, in the midst of this great darkness shines the Brightest Light of all, albeit from afar —
“And I will put enmity
Between [the serpent] and the woman
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel” (Genesis 3.15).
Indeed, Satan would inflict a serious would upon “the seed of woman” (i.e. Jesus — Isaiah 7.14; Matthew 1.18-23; Galatians 4.4) at the cross (Isaiah 53), but Jesus at the same time would inflict a mortal and everlasting blow to the head of Satan (1 John 3.8).
