Week 1, Day 4 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Genesis 9.18-27 record Noah’s drunkenness, Ham’s subsequent sin against God and against his father, and the consequences of it all. They are difficult verses to read, but they are vitally important, introducing the narrative of “Canaan,” which flows through the Old Testament. But those verses also provide evidence for Bible inspiration. You see, the Bible records its heroes’ heroism and their flaws. When men write of their heroes, they typically ignore (or at least gloss over) those shortcomings, but not so with divine authorship. Noah got drunk, Abraham and Isaac lied, Jacob deceived, Judah solicited a prostitute, David committed adultery, Peter denied Jesus, and Barnabas played the hypocrite. This is decidedly not how men would write the story, which is exactly why only God could.
