And now, a minute with the Word…

Genesis 18.16-33 remind us of two important Biblical truths. First, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14.34), and the sin of any group can reach a point of no return and imminent collective judgment — like the antediluvian world (Genesis 6), Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18-19), Israel (2 Kings 17), Judah (2 Kings 24-25), the church at Ephesus (Revelation 2.5) — and so it could happen today. But second, and mercifully, God “desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2.4) and “is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3.9).
