Week 2, Day 3 — A minute with the Word
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Genesis 19 is among the most troubling and unpleasant chapters of the Bible. Beyond Sodom’s “gross immorality” and pursuit of “strange flesh” (Jude 7), there is Lot’s failed moral authority with his sons-in-law, Mrs. Lot’s looking-back and death, their daughters’ selfishness and incestuous scheme, and Lot’s drunken fornication with those daughters — all set in motion by Lot’s short-sighted choices six chapters earlier, when he chose the Jordan valley and its cities, despite the wicked moral and spiritual environs (Genesis 13.8-13). We must learn from Lot’s mistakes. “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3.2). Make decisions for yourself and your family based upon eternal outcomes rather than temporary material advantages.
