Isaac’s favoritism toward Esau, Rebekah’s toward Jacob (Genesis 25.28), Jacob’s toward Joseph (37.3), and their consequences form a cautionary tale, from which we would do well to learn. “God shows no partiality” (Acts 10.34; Romans 2.11; Galatians 2.6; cf. Ephesians 6.9), rather “anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him” (Acts 10.35); so “My brothers, show no partiality as you hold the faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory” (James 2.1) — “do not destroy the one for whom Christ died” (Romans 14.15) — at home, work, or school; among family, friends, or strangers; with fellow Christians or those still lost in sin.
