Week 8, Day 3 — Leviticus 6-7
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
When we consider Old Testament sacrifices, we usually and primarily connect them with matters of sin and forgiveness, and understandably so. In just Leviticus 1-7, the words atonement, sin, guilt, forgiven, and iniquity appear more than 100 times. But other purposes appear in the same context and elsewhere in the Law — words like pleasing aroma, memorial, peace, thanksgiving, vow, freewill, and ordination. Considering everything said regarding sacrifice, there hardly seems a part of Jewish life for which some offering was not prescribed by the Lord. In this way, nothing has changed, for “you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 2.5).
