Week 8, Day 4 — Leviticus 8-10
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
The story of Nadab and Abihu, in Leviticus 10.1-3, teaches us two vital lessons. First, the fire they offered before the Lord was “unauthorized/strange/profane” because it was that “which he had not commanded them” (verse 1). The Lord had specified the fire to be offered, and His silence regarding other fire did not permit its use — i.e. God’s silence is restrictive, not permissive. Second, this text explains why that is so — substituting, adding to, or taking from the will of God does not sanctify or glorify Him (verse 3). Honoring the Lord requires respecting both what He says and what He does not say.
