Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the Word…
Leviticus 13 and 14 shed considerable light on Jesus’ encounters with lepers, like Mark 1.40-45 and Luke 17.11-19. When we understand the Old Testament background, we can better appreciate these lepers’ desperation, Jesus’ remarkable compassion, His instructions to them, and their immense joy at their cleansing. Considering our affliction with sin — a spiritual leprosy, far worse than that of the flesh — we should ask ourselves: Are we as desperate for relief? Do we marvel at Jesus’ compassion toward us? Are we willing to do whatever He asks for cleansing? And when we are cleansed, do we return with joy, thanksgiving, praise, and service?
