Week 13, Day 4 — Deuteronomy 4-6
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
Deuteronomy 4.27-29 — “The Lord will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be reduced to a few survivors among the nations where the Lord your God will drive you. There you will worship man-made gods of wood and stone, which cannot see, hear, eat, or smell. But from there, you will search for the Lord your God, and you will find him when you seek after Him with all your heart and all your soul.” (CSB)
This is one of those passages that strikes me every time that I read it. Around 1,000 years before it would happen, God had told His people what would happen to them if they acted corruptly, worshipped idols, and did what was evil in God’s sight (Deuteronomy 4.25). They would be dispossessed from the land of Canaan and sent to foreign nations and their number would be reduced to a small number. There are two things that I can take away from this:
- God says what He means and means what He says. When God tells me something, I can rest assured knowing that what He has said will come to pass. It may not happen when I think, but it will. (2 Peter 3.7-11)
- If I have strayed from the path that God has called me to live and I’m living in opposition to Him, there is still time for me to correct that. I have to have the right attitude and disposition (diligently seeking and humility to change), but even the “worst of sinners” can be saved by the blood of Jesus. (1 Timothy 1.15)
