Week 17, Day 1 — Joshua 16-18
Series: 2024 Bible ReadingAnd now, a minute with the word…
There are two separate passages in today’s reading that specifically call to mind that the people of Israel failed in driving out the Canaanite peoples. Joshua 16.10 and Joshua 17.12 mention that the people of Ephraim and Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of the land. The failure of the Israelites to drive out the Canaanite peoples from the land ultimately would prove to be the genesis of their downfall. They would eventually worship the idols these people worshipped. They allowed that influence to drive them away from Jehovah and it cost them dearly. We too need to be alert and drive sin out of lives. If that means you don’t hang out with the same crowd, give it up. If that means you don’t go to the same places you used to go to, stop going there. If it means changing your job so that you aren’t tempted to do something a Christian should not do, change your job. We should be willing to be like Joseph and flee from a situation that could take us away from God.
2 Corinthians 6.17 — “Therefore, come out from among them and be separate, says the Lord; do not touch any unclean thing, and I will welcome you.” (CSB)
